Hardware and Software Suggestions

Making Podcasts:

Good microphone
Software to record. I suggest Audacity. It's free and available on Pc and Mac
Place to put it. I suggest iTunes since it's free or your own webspace. Search the Internet for places to host your podcasts. Try the links above too.
Yep, a computer too :)

Making screencasts:

Good microphone
Software to record your screen. I suggest Camtasia. As an educator you can purchase this software at a discount. Try the 30-day free trial to see if you like it.
Place to put it. I suggest iTunes since it's free or your own webspace. Search the Internet for places to host your screencasts. Try the links above too.
Graphics tablet. If you want to create a virtual whiteboard movie. I suggest nothing smaller than 6"x8". Look on eBay for some nice, but cheap models.
You will need a place to draw. I recommend NotateIt. This program is about $50 and has all sorts of tools for drawing and highlighting. They too offer a free trial period. Give it a try.
If you need special symbols, use Microsoft Word's equation creator. Create the equation in Word and then copy and paste to NotateIt.
Yep, a computer too :)

I hope you find this information useful. It's only scratched the surface as to what podcasts and screencasts can do for you in the classroom. Remember to have fun creating your own movies. You are both the director and actor. Have fun now :)
